Choosing a vinyl fence style

Most residential vinyl projects come down to how much you want to see through the fence.

Privacy is the most common choice for a back yard, using solid tongue-and-groove panels. We stock white in six foot height. Semi-privacy uses spaced boards or a lattice or picket top, which blocks most sight lines while letting light and air through. Picket suits a front yard or a garden area where the fence is defining a boundary rather than hiding one. Ranch rail and split rail work on larger lots and horse properties where the job is marking the line, not screening it.

How the estimate works

Every estimate is on site. We walk the line, check the grade, look at property corners and utilities, and confirm what your municipality or HOA requires for height and setback before anything is ordered. Serving Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, and the surrounding communities.

When vinyl is not the right answer

Vinyl is a good fit for most residential privacy and picket work, but it is not the answer for everything. Pool enclosures have to meet local spacing requirements, and aluminum is usually the better fit there. Security and perimeter work on commercial sites is normally chain link or ornamental aluminum. If you want a natural wood look and are willing to maintain it, wood is worth comparing. We will tell you when one of those is the better choice for your property.

Maintenance and gates

Upkeep is washing the fence down when it gets dirty. That is the practical difference against wood, which needs periodic sealing or staining to hold its appearance.

Gates are where a vinyl fence shows its quality. Ours use a welded aluminum frame inside the gate to prevent sagging, and aluminum post stiffeners inserted in the gate posts for support. That matters on wider gates and on any gate that gets used every day.

Vinyl fence FAQs

How much does vinyl fence installation cost in West Michigan?

It depends on linear footage, height, style, the number of gates, and site conditions such as grade and access. We do not publish a per-foot number because the site drives the price. A free on-site estimate gives you a written quote with no obligation.

How long does a vinyl fence last?

Vinyl will not rot, and it does not need refinishing. The lines we install carry limited lifetime warranties through Digger Specialties and Bufftech. Actual service life depends on the product line, the installation, and exposure.

Does vinyl fence hold up to Michigan winters?

Quality vinyl is formulated for freeze and thaw cycles and does not absorb water the way wood does. Post depth is the other winter factor, and we confirm the requirement for your municipality during the estimate.

What heights are available?

Privacy vinyl is most commonly six foot, which is what we stock in white. Picket and semi-privacy are typically lower. Your municipality or HOA may cap height, particularly in a front yard, and we confirm that during the estimate.

Can vinyl fence be installed on a slope?

Yes. On a grade, panels are either racked to follow the contour or stepped down in sections. Which method works depends on the panel style and how steep the slope is. Our estimator assesses this on site.

Is vinyl fence pool code compliant?

Some vinyl styles can meet pool requirements and some cannot, because spacing rules vary by municipality. Many homeowners choose aluminum for pool enclosures instead. We confirm your local ordinance before recommending a style.

Do you repair existing vinyl fence?

Yes. Vinyl is panel based, so damaged sections can often be replaced without redoing the whole run, provided the original line is still available. We assess the posts as well, since a leaning post is a different repair than a cracked panel.
